On November 7, 2024, TANLAP, in collaboration with the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), and the Government Spokesperson’s Office, conducted a comprehensive training session for journalists. The training targeted media professionals from the President’s Office – TAMISEMI, along with 117 journalists representing 91 national and community media outlets across the country. The session was held at African Dream Hotel in Dodoma.
The primary objective of the training was to enhance journalists’ understanding of the laws and regulations governing the 2024 local government elections. Additionally, it aimed to strengthen the capacity of media outlets to monitor and document election processes effectively. The training offered a platform for sharing experiences and addressing challenges encountered in covering previous elections, while equipping journalists with best practices for improved reporting.
Key focus areas included enhancing journalists’ digital security skills, building their understanding of ethical guidelines for media and online content during the election period, and equipping them to report on the local government elections with integrity and professionalism. The training underscored the importance of transparent, accurate, and ethical election reporting to support public interest and uphold democratic values in Tanzania.
We advocate for informed, transparent, and peaceful elections across Tanzania, promoting civic engagement and empowering citizens to shape a united and democratic future.
